It’s a protocol that has been designed by Netscape. The software enables encrypted communications throughout the Internet. It provides authentication, message integrity, and privacy. SSL is used in communications between servers and browsers very often. A URL that starts with “https” indicates that SSL connection will be utilized on the site. During the SSL connection, each of the sides sends a Security Certificate across to the other. Both the sides encrypt what they have sent, ensuring that it can be decoded only by the intended recipient.
